Rob is independent Non-Executive Chair of the Board of of The International Stock Exchange Authority Limited, a position he has held since January 2021. He is also a member of the Group’s Nominations Committee, Remuneration Committee and Risk Committee.
Background, Experience and Skills
Rob Trefny has more than 35 years’ experience as a lawyer during which time he acted for a wide range of banks and companies across multiple geographies conducting a variety of different securities offerings.
Originally from just outside New York, Rob spent 11 years at Davis Polk & Wardell in New York where he completed over 150 offerings and worked with the SEC on the formulation of Rule 144A and Regulation S.
In 1994, he moved to Clifford Chance where he became a Capital Markets Partner. Based at Clifford Chance in Hong Kong for five years he built an eight-person team conducting due diligence on APAC companies looking to offer securities in the United States. He then relocated to London in 1999 where he acted for EMEA-based companies looking to offer securities in the United States and he was instrumental in winning several major new clients, including those who had not previously considered issuing corporate bonds or equity securities in the United States.
He continued to practice as a Capital Markets Partner in the London office of Clifford Chance until leaving the firm in 2018.
